Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hailed the Union Budget 2025, calling it a “people’s budget.”

“This budget is a force multiplier. It will increase savings, investments, consumption and growth,” the prime minister said.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha on February 1 where she announced major tax reliefs for the middle class. She said that there would be no income tax payable on income of up to Rs 12 lakh. The new income tax regime is structured to be more simplified and beneficial to the middle class.

Congratulating Sitharaman on presenting a “people’s budget”, PM Modi said, “Usually the focus of the budget is on how the government treasury will be filled, but this budget is exactly the opposite of that. This budget lays the foundation for how the pockets of India’s citizens will be filled.”

PM Modi added that this year’s budget has prioritised employees from all sectors. He highlighted that tourism will get a major boost within the next few years as the government will bring it under the ambit of infrastructure.

“In terms of reforms, many important steps have been taken in this budget. Encouraging the private sector in nuclear energy is historic. It will ensure a big contribution of Civil Nuclear Energy in the development of the country,” he added.
