A chilling case of the murder of an elderly man has emerged in Hyderabad. Heated argument between two men escalated and turned into a bloody scene here on Thursday (February 6) night.
The victim being talked about here is none other than prominent industrialist Velamati Chandrasekhar Janardhan Rao, authorities revealed on Sunday (February 9).
The culprit arrested in the case– one of relations going sour over property– is his grandson, Keerthi Teja, Lokmat Times reported.
86-year-old Janardhan Rao, the head of the Veljan Group of Companies, was at his residence in Somajiguda in Hyderabad.
His grandson Teja, the son of Janardhan Rao’s daughter Sarojini Devi, met him there. The two men got into a heated argument over property distribution during this time.
Janardhan Rao had recently appointed his eldest grandson, Srikrishna, as a director of the Veljan Group and transferred shares worth Rs 4 crore ($480,000) to Teja.
The 29-year-old Teja accused his grandfather of unfair treatment.
According to Lokmat Times, investigators said that in a fit of rage, Teja, who had ecently returned to India from the United States after completing a master’s degree, pulled out a knife he had carried with him, and stabbed his grandfather.
Janardhan Rao was stabbed as many as 73 times. He succumbed to the injuries on the spot.
When Sarojini Devi tried to intervene, Teja attacked his own mother, as well. She sustained several stab wounds.
The security guard at the residence, who witnessed the attack, was threatened by Teja before he fled the scene, authorities said.
Teja was taken into custody on Saturday and has been remanded to judicial custody. Police are investigating whether he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.
Rao, a native of Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, was known for his philanthropic work, including substantial donations to the Government General Hospital in Eluru and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.
