India and Russia have come to an agreement regarding jointly handling emergencies of various kinds.
The agreement is formally called the Working Plan of Joint Russian-Indian Commission on the Cooperation in the Field of Emergency Management for 2025-26. It was signed in Russian capital Moscow on Wednesday by Union Minister of Home for State Nityanand Rai and Russia’s Minister for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters Kurenkov Aleksandr Vyacheslavovich.
Here are the five things about the latest India-Russia deal.
1. In the meeting before the signing of the deal, the Indian and Russian delegations deliberated on three issues:
2. The two sides decided to intensify joint efforts to develop further cooperation in the field of emergency management
3. India and Russia decided to exchange best practices in emergency management, including in disaster monitoring and forecasting and training of rescue specialists and firefighters.
4. The two sides decided to further develop cooperation between the eminent educational and research institutions of India and Russia. They also agreed for the training of specialists in the field of emergency management in both the countries.
5. The working plan is a step towards boosting cooperation in the areas of upgradation, mutual assistance in enhancing early warning systems, and capacity-building of both the countries in emergency preparedness, prevention, response, and planning.
