On Tuesday, several airports, including New Delhi, Chennai, Vadodara, Jaipur, Patna, received bomb threat emails, spreading panic and scare among travellers as well as causing flight delays.

Delhi airport bomb threat

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) office at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport received a threat email at 9:35 AM, warning of a bomb placed inside a Dubai-bound aircraft.

The mail did not specify the airline’s name or the flight number.

“On June 17 at 9:35 AM, an email was received in DIAL office, IGI Airport, with the threat of a bomb inside a Delhi to Dubai flight. Accordingly, necessary legal action has been taken and nothing suspicious was found,” the Delhi Police said.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the unknown sender had emailed the same bomb threat to about 40 airports across India around 12.40 PM.

Chennai airport bomb threat delays Dubai-bound flight

A similar threat mail was received by the authorities at the Chennai International Airport. Police said, a Chennai-Dubai Emirates plane, carrying 286 passengers, got delayed by around two hours due to a false threat.

The officials at the Chennai airport said that upon receiving an email warning of a bomb on board, security agencies carried out thorough inspection in the flight that was scheduled to depart around 9:50 AM on Tuesday.

Coimbatore airport receives bomb threat

A bomb threat email was also received by the Coimbatore international airport. A bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) team, along with a sniffer dog squad from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), conducted a search of the airport premises and declared the bomb threat a hoax.

Threat email spreads panic in Jaipur

A thorough investigation was jointly carried out at Jaipur airport after a bomb threat was received on Tuesday.

Police and CISF searched the airport premises after the management received a bomb threat email.

Later, cops said: “The airport was thoroughly checked, but nothing suspicious has been found so far.”

The Jaipur airport authorities received similar threats in April.

Security increased at Vadodara airport

Security was also heightened at Vadodara airport after authorities received a bomb threat in the afternoon.

A probe has been launched to track down the person who sent the threat email, and Vadodara Cyber Crime is tracing the source of the email.

Patna airport on alert

The Patna airport too received a bomb threat email, following which security was increased.

The Director of Patna’s Jayprakash Narayan International Airport around 1:10 PM on Tuesday received a bomb threat email.
