A shocking incident occurred in Maharashtra where a 23-year-old woman, who did not know how to drive, sat on the driver’s seat of Toyota Etios car to shoot an Instagram reel and accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while the vehicle was in reverse gear.
The four-wheeler sped backwards and fell 300 feet into a gorge in Maharashtra’s Chattrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
Police said the incident happened around 2 pm on Monday in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, earlier known as Aurangabad.
Driving for the first time
The young woman, Shweta Deepak Survase, a resident of Hanuman Nagar in Sabhajinagar, was attempting to drive for the first time. Her friend Shivraj Mule was recording a video of her trying to drive a sedan.
“Survase tried her hand at driving while her friend Shivraj Mule was shooting a video. She accidentally pressed the accelerator while the car was in reverse gear. The vehicle slid back, broke a crash barrier and plunged into the valley,” PTI quoted an official from the Khutabad police station as saying.
A report by The Indian Express quoted the police as saying that Survase was not experienced in driving.
Both the friends had travelled from Aurangabad to Sulibhanjan Hills on Monday. They were visiting the Dattatreya temple.
Accident video
The video, which has now gone viral, shows Survase sitting in the driver’s seat. She slowly rotated the steering as the car was in reverse.
The sedan was about 50 metres away from the cliff when she took control. However, she bumped the accelerator accidentally, after which the car sped up. Her friend was heard screaming and warning her to slow down.
“Clutch, clutch, clutch”, he can be heard shouting as the car’s reverses.
Mule ran to stop her but the car fell into the gorge, killing Survase.
It took an hour for rescuers to reach her and the vehicle. She was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital, police said.
