The diplomatic relationship between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump is known to be marked by personal warmth and mutual respect. It is a strong bond that comes out through thoughtful gestures during their meetings.

PM Modi and Trump’s meeting at the White House on Friday (February 14) was no exception.

Here’s a look at three special gestures that show the unique rapport between the two leaders.

A heartfelt hug: One of the first images from the widely watched Modi-Trump meeting showed greeting each other with a heartfelt hug. Right off the bat, it was an apparent gesture of the close personal bond the two share.

Following the warm hug, PM Modi told President Trump that it was great to meet him after a while.

For his part, Trump conveyed to Modi that he was missed quite a lot.

A personalised book: During their joint press conference in the Oval Office, Trump also gifted his book “Our Journey Together” to PM Modi.

Trump signed the book, writing, “Mr Prime Minister, you are great.”

The book, a 320-page collection of photographs, features events like ‘Howdy Modi’, and ‘Namaste Trump’, when the two leaders rallied for each other, expressing support.

But that is not all. It also carries a personalised message from Trump, which says, “Mr Prime Minister, you are great.”

A courteous act: In a video clip PM Modi and President Trump’s meeting, the Republican is also seen pulling out a chair for the Indian leader so he can sit and pen down a message in a book kept on the table.

This speacial act of courtesy, from one of the most powerful Presidents in the world, has garnered attention online.
