Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde thanked his supporters as Mahayuti is set for a landslide victory in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Elections. The early trends are showing that BJP-led Mahayuti is expected to win over 200 seats out of the 288 the state assembly has to offer. The counting began on Saturday at 8 am.
As of now the alliance has won one seat but is leading on 220 seats. The magic figure to cross and to form a majority government in the state is 145. “I thank the voters of Maharashtra. This is a landslide victory. I had said before that Mahayuti will get a thumping victory. I thank all sections of the society. I also thank all the workers of the Mahayuti parties,” the Shiv Sena told reporters in Thane.
Shinde also celebrated the feat by distributing ladoos to his party workers. When asked about what lies ahead for the alliance, which is expected to form the government, Shinde said that all three parties who were part of the alliance will sit and make a decision on who will be the next Maharashtra CM. “Let the final results come in…Then, in the same way as we fought elections together, all three parties will sit together and take a decision,” he averred.
After the BJP-led alliance crossed the 200 mark in the early trends, Union Minister Amit Shah spoke to Shinde, Deputy CMs Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis and congratulated them for the alliance’s performance.
With a majority secured, reports are emerging that the BJP is likely to hold the Maharashtra Legislative Party meeting on November 25. The oath-taking ceremony is tentatively scheduled for November 26, ANI reported.
A source close to the party told ANI that a large meeting of the Yuti alliance is also likely to be held around the same time. Meanwhile, celebrations have already begun at the BJP’s Mumbai office. As per the trends released at 11 am, the Mahayuti alliance is leading in 220 seats, with BJP leading in 128, driving the charge in the state. The Shinde-led Shiv Sena (SHS) is heading the polls with 55 seats, followed closely by the National Congress Party (NCP) with 35 seats.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on the other hand is trailing with a lead in 51 seats. The Indian National Congress, which is part of MVA has managed to take a lead in only 20 seats, followed by Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has a lead in 16 seats. Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) is currently leading in 13 seats in the state.
As the Mahayuti alliance celebrates a stellar performance in the polls, all eyes are now on who will assume the post of CM of the state.
