Indo-Russia joint venture BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd will have at least 15 per cent of the technical vacancies in the company filled by Agniveers. Additionally, half of the vacancies in administrative and security roles– including outsourced functions– will also be reserved for them.

The company is also set to integrate Agniveers beyond regular contracts, including them into outsourcing contracts.

The maker of the world’s fastest supersonic missile has become the first company in India to reserve jobs for Agniveers, a source told Firstpost.

BrahMos is also expanding the scope of the initiative beyond the company itself. It is encouraging its industry partners to also reserve 15 per cent of their workforce for Agniveers in roles tied to BrahMos Aerospace’s requirements.

Over 200 of BrahMos’s Industry partners will be incentivised to provide opportunities to Agniveers.

Why integrate Agniveers in BrahMos?

Under the Agnipath Scheme launched in 2022, young individuals–Agniveers– are being recruited into the armed forces for a four-year term. They receive training in military tactics and technical proficiency, among other skills.

Explaining the rationale behind integrating Agniveers, BrahMos Aerospace’s CEO and MD Atul Dinkar Rane told Firstpost that “Agniveers are going to be trained and they’re going to be disciplined, and we will not have to spend resources on extra training because they would have had rigorous instruction in whatever trade they would have taken up in the armed forces and skills they have picked up there.”

He added that this is a way to create an even more well-trained and disciplined workforce inside of BrahMos.

Encouraging partner industries

Dr SK Joshi, the Deputy CEO of BrahMos told Fristpost that over 250 Indian defence industries are part of Team BrahMos. He exuded confidence in other Indian defence industries and corporate houses following the initiative taken up by BrahMos.

“We anticipate an overwhelming response from our Indian defence industry partners as the first batch of Agniveers graduates,” Dr Joshi said.

Rane also expanded upon this. He said, “We are going to request all our vendors who are going to be working with us– in terms of all the security and manpower outsourcing we do and our partner industries– that we want at least 15 per cent of their workforce to be Agniveers.”

BrahMos will be adding this into the “desirable features” section of their tenders. Rane stated this will be a message to people planning to work with BrahMos about giving opportunities to Agniveers as well.

Reservations in other organisations

Presently, Agniveers are offered a 10 per cent reservation in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) that come under the ambit of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

They are also exempted from certain physical tests required of other candidates who want to enter any of the CAPF organisations.

In July, Haryana announced a 10 per cent quota for Agniveers in select government jobs. The state government also announced that it would provide a subsidy of Rs 60,000 per annum to industrial units that offer Agniveers a monthly salary of over Rs 30,000.

The same month, UP government announced that Agniveers would be given weightage in the state police and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) force.
