On the intervening night of August 28-29, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir engaged in an encounter with terrorists in Rajouri district, following a targeted cordon and search operation. This operation was initiated around 9:30 pm in response to intelligence reports indicating suspicious militant movement in the general area of village Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal in Rajouri district.
According to a police spokesperson, the search operation was underway when contact with the terrorists was established at approximately 11:45 PM. This led to a fierce exchange of gunfire between the terrorists and the security forces near the Kheri Mohra area. To enhance visibility and support the operation, security forces fired tracer rounds to illuminate the surroundings.
The spokesperson noted that two to three militants are currently believed to be holed up in the cordoned-off area and additional forces have been deployed to strengthen the security cordon and assist in the ongoing operation.
Simultaneously, in Kupwara district, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched joint anti-infiltration operations based on reliable intelligence inputs about infiltration attempts. These operations took place in the Machil and Tangdhar areas on the intervening night of August 28-29.
In Machil, despite adverse weather conditions including heavy rainfall and dense fog, security forces detected suspicious movements. They engaged the suspected infiltrators with effective firing, which led to the likely neutralisation of two terrorists. The challenging weather conditions have, however, delayed the retrieval of the bodies.
Similarly, in Tangdhar, another joint operation resulted in the probable neutralisation of one terrorist. Both operations are still ongoing as security forces continue to secure and clear the areas.
