Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed India as writing the world’s destiny in the 21st century.
Asserting India’s centrality to the world’s growth, Modi said that India is on its way to becoming a hub of everything from semiconductors to manufacturing of electronics’ goods.
Speaking to the Indian diaspora in Moscow during his visit to Russia, Modi pitched India’s confidence as the biggest asset and said it is after 2014 —the year he became the prime minister— that such confidence has come. He said that the positive changes in India today are not just a result of systemic change but are also rooted in renewed confidence among Indians.
“The change in India is not just of system and infrastructure. The change is seen in the confidence of every Indian. You know very well that self-confidence is the first step to success. Before 2014, we were drowning in the endless pit of disappointment. Defeatism had trapped us. Today, the country is full of self-confidence,” said Modi in a speech in Hindi.
Modi said that India is now just aiming to improve its infrastructure but is also looking forward to be in an industrial and manufacturing powerhouse as it aims to become a leader in green hydrogen and electric vehicles (EV) manufacturing.
Mod hails India-Russia ties
Calling Russian President Vladimir Putin a dear friend, Modi thanked his leadership for strengthening the India-Russia relationship.
Modi said that India sees Russia as a trusted friend and as a companion of good and bad times.
India-Russia relations are built on strong foundations of mutual trust and mutual respect and I commend President Putin for working tirelessly to take India-Russia relations to greater heights, said Modi.
Modi also hailed the historic cultural ties between India and Russia — previously the Soviet Union. He invoked the yesteryears’ Indian actors like Raj Kapoor who were popular in Soviet Union.
Modi announced the opening to two more consulates in the Russian cities of Kazan and Yekaterinburg.
Hailing the Indian diaspora, Modi said that they are the “rashtradoot” of India.
“Those sitting in the Indian missions are the ‘rajdoot’, the ambassadors, but you are our ‘rasthradoor’, the ambassadors of the Indian nation to the world,” said Modi as he praised the diaspora for strengthening the India-Russia relationship and taking Indian culture and values the world over.
