Amid the ongoing investigation into the NEET-UG paper leak case, the Opposition has vowed to raise the issue in Parliament on Friday. According to sources, all INDIA bloc parties will submit notices regarding the NEET paper leak in the Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, the Opposition plans to file an adjournment notice on the matter in the Lok Sabha.

It’s important to note that Friday’s parliamentary session is slated for a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address. Despite this, the Opposition is gearing up to bring attention to the NEET controversy.

Following a strategic meeting of INDIA alliance leaders at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Delhi, Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “We will raise all the critical issues facing the country in Parliament.”

President of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, Hanuman Beniwal also said, “The Opposition is united and it will raise the issues of NEET, Agniveer, inflation and unemployment and MSP in the Parliament.”

The development comes as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made its first arrests in the NEET-UG paper leak case and detained two men from Bihar earlier in the day. The two accused, identified as Manish Prakash and Ashutosh Kumar, were arrested from Patna.

Bihar court sends two accused to 3 days in CBI remand

A court in Bihar’s Patna on Wednesday sent two accused in the NEET “paper leak” to CBI remand for three days. The CBI had on Sunday filed an FIR in connection with alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam NEET-UG held on May 5 on a reference from the Union education ministry.

The court allowed the CBI to take Baldev Kumar alias Chintu and Mukesh Kumar under its remand for further questioning.

Baldev Kumar, associated with the notorious Sanjeev Kumar alias Lutan Mukhiya gang, allegedly received the solved answer sheet of the NEET-UG in PDF format on his mobile phone a day before the exam, sources said. Mukesh is also associated with the gang, they said.

The CBI is also trying to nab the other absconding members of the Mukhiya gang, accused of orchestrating multiple interstate paper leaks.

Investigations revealed that Baldev and his associates printed and distributed the solved answer sheet to students gathered at a safe house in Ram Krishna Nagar in Patna on May 4 for memorisation, the sources said.

President Droupadi Murmu said on Thursday the Centre had made efforts to solve the paper leak crisis and was committed to an impartial probe.

“It is the Centre’s priority to give equal opportunity to all aspiring candidates. My government is committed to a fair investigation and to punish those behind paper leak incidents,” Murmu said in Parliament, remarks that came in the backdrop of the cancellation of UGC-NET as well as a massive row over the NEET-UG 2024 examination.
