Nitish Kumar and N Chandrababu Nadu have asked Caretaker Prime Minister Narendra Modi to form the new government of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) without much delay, according to CNN-News 18.
Both the leaders urged Modi to take oath at the earliest on an “auspicious day”, according to the report.
As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has failed to secure a majority of its own, Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and N Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have emerged as kingmakers for the next government’s formation.
Earlier in the day, the NDA leaders held a meeting and a resolution electing Modi as the alliance’s leader was passed unanimously.
While the BJP won 240 seats, the NDA has crossed the crossed the majority-mark of 272. With 12 seats of JD (U) and 16 of TDP, the NDA has 292 seats.
The NDA is expected to stake claim to form the new government once the details of the coalition have been figured out.
