The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Topon Kumar Gogoi has put up a fierce fight for the Jorhat seat, so it appears that Gaurav Gogoi of the Congress is facing some challenging competition. Based on India Today-Axis My India Exit Poll, the BJP is leading Congress by a narrow margin in this battle.

Voter turnout increased from 64.58% in 2009 to 78.32% in 2014 in the predominantly rural Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency in Assam, reflecting higher voter participation. In the past, the Congress party ruled initially and during the 1970s, but their domination was ended in 1985 with the victory of the Asom Gana Parishad. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gained ground in recent times. It won the elections in 2014 and 2019, with Topon Kumar Gogoi of the BJP defeating Sushanta Borgohain of the Congress. These elections depict a competitive electoral environment, reflecting Jorhat’s shifting political landscape and voter preferences.

The BJP had taken the Jorhat seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. With 543288 votes, the party’s Topon Kumar Gogoi was chosen to represent this Jorhat seat as a member of parliament. With 460635 votes, INC candidate Sushanta Borgohain came in second.
