Underworld boss Chhota Rajan was given a life sentence on Thursday by a special court in Mumbai in connection with the 2001 murder of Mumbai businessman Jaya Shetty.
Chhota Rajan was found guilty earlier today of killing hotelier Jaya Shetty in 2001.
Rajan was convicted guilty of murder under the Indian Penal Code by AM Patil, a special judge handling cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
The Golden Crown hotel, which is situated in the Gamdevi neighborhood of central Mumbai, was owned by Jaya Shetty. Shetty was shot on the first floor of the hotel on May 4, 2001, by two people who were allegedly part of the Chhota Rajan gang.
The hotelier was first given police protection after the gang began making extortion threats against her.
However, two months before the deadly incident, Shetty requested that his security be lifted.
