Prajwal Revanna, Janata Dal (Secular) MP, facing charges of sexually assaulting women, on Monday said he will appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 31.
Prajwal, accused in ‘obscene videos’ case had fled to Germany on April 27, the day after voting in the constituency. He used his diplomatic passport to leave India.
‘Cases against me are false’
“Don’t mistake me, on the 31st at 10 am, I will be in front of the SIT and I will cooperate,” Prajwal said.
“I trust the judiciary and the cases against me are false and are part of a political conspiracy. I trust the law,” he further said.
The MP from Karnataka further alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders spoke about it openly in public, saying, “This is a political conspiracy”.
‘I went into depression & isolation’
Prajwal said he “went into depression and isolation” and that “few forces in Hassan (his constituency from which he was fielded in 2024 Lok Sabha elections) are against me because I am growing publically.”
“On May 26, when the election (in Hassan constituency) got over, there was no case against me. SIT was not former. Two-three days after I left, I saw on YouTube these allegations against me. I also wrote to SIT asking for seven days time,” Revanna claimed.
‘Want to apologise to my family and JDS’
Prajwal apologised to his party workers for not providing his whereabouts and said, “I want to apologise to my family members, my Kumaranna [HD Kumaraswamy], and the party workers for not providing proper information about my whereabouts abroad.”
Prajwal, 33-year-old Karnataka lawmaker, is the grandson of JDS patriarch and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda.
He is facing charges of multiple instances of sexually abusing women.
Explicit videos allegedly of Prajwal sexually abusing several women went viral in Hassan last month, after which the Karnataka government constituted a team to investigate the crime allegedly involving him.
Prajwal’s video message came three days after HD Deve Gowda issued a strong warning to his grandson, asking him to return to India, surrender to the police or face his wrath.
Also, it comes less than a week after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that cancellation of the diplomatic passport of Prajwal was “being processed”.
