Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed fake cases to arrest Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders.
Kejriwal made the allegation as AAP marched to the BJP’s headquarters in Delhi in protest against the arrest of its party leaders. He further said that even though cases have been filed against them, no money trail has been found.
Even as Kejriwal and AAP went ahead with their protest, the Delhi Police said they would not be allowed to reach the BJP’s headquarters as no permission was sought for the protest. Kejriwal on Saturday had announced that he and other top leaders of AAP would march to the BJP headquarters on Sunday at 12 pm.
The Delhi Police stopped AAP leaders and workers as Section 144 of the CrPC was imposed to disallow large gatherings.
Ahead of the march that Kejriwal had announced, the police put up barricades near the BJP’s headquarters at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg in Delhi to stop the march.
Separately, the entry and exit at ITO Metro Station has been shut indefinitely, said Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The metro station is in the vicinity of the BJP’s headquarters.
‘BJP has started Operation Jhaadu’: Kejriwal
Ahead of the planned march to the BJP’s headquarters, Kejriwal said the BJP has started ‘Operation Jhaadu’.
Kejriwal further said that bank accounts of AAP will be frozen after the Lok Sabha elections. He said the accounts are not being frozen right now just because the support for AAP may in case the accounts are frozen in the middle of elections.
‘Put in jail whoever you want to’: Kejriwal’s dare to PM Modi
While announcing the Sunday’s protest in an online broadcast, Kejriwal had dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “put in jail whoever you want to”.
“Tomorrow, at 12 pm, I am coming to BJP headquarters with all of my top leaders including MPs and MLAs. Put in jail whoever you want to arrest. Put all of them in jail at once,” said Kejriwal in Hindi on Saturday in a dare to Modi.
Kejriwal’s statement came on the day his personal assistant (PA) Bibhav Kumar was arrested by Delhi Police in the case of alleged assault of AAP MP Swati Maliwal at Kejriwal’s residence while he was in the house. While Kejriwal did not refer to the case, he included him while listing the party leaders that he said have been unfairly jailed by the BJP.
Kejriwal said, “One after another, they are putting our leaders in jail. They put me in jail. They put Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, and Sanjay Singh in jail. Today, they put my PA in jail. Now, they are saying they’d put Ragha Chaddha in jail now that he is back from London. In some days, they are saying they’d jail Saurabh Bhardwaj Atishi.”
The AAP and its leaders, including convenor Kejriwal, have been embroiled in legal troubles. While Kejriwal, Sisodia, and Singh have been arrested and jailed in the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam case, Jain was arrested and jailed for a series of corruption and money laundering cases.
The AAP and a number of party leaders, including party convenor Kejriwal, are being investigated by central agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Kejriwal, Sisodia, and Singh have been arrested and imprisoned in the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam case whereas Jain was arrested and jailed for corruption and money laundering cases.
