All of the 15 officials trapped inside a mine in Rajasthan’s Neem ka Thana district were taken out on Wednesday. One of them, is, however feared dead.

Neem ka Thana Collector Sharad Mehra told PTI that 14 rescued personnel were sent to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur for treatment and one was taken to a company hospital for examination as he was feared dead.

The 15 officials of Hindustan Copper Limited, a public-sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Mines, were trapped inside a mine on Tuesday evening when the rope of the ‘cage’ carrying them in the vertical shaft snapped. This led to the ‘cage’ carrying them to fall, according to the agency.

The trapped personnel included officials from the vigilance team and senior officials of the company. They had entered the mine for an inspection and were coming out when the accident happened.

In the first round, three trapped personnel were rescued earlier in the day. Then, in the second round, five more were rescued.

Earlier, after the three trapped personnel were rescued, Dr Mahendra Singh, a part of the medical team, said they had fractures and other injuries.

Food and first-aid provided to trapped officials

Before the three persons were rescued in the first round, food and medical support were provided to all the trapped officials inside the mine, according to NDTV.

The report said that an eight-member team of doctors and nurses reached the trapped personnel from the exit gate of the mine and provided first-aid and food.

The police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are engaged in the rescue operation.

“No casualties have been reported so far. All the emergency preparations, including ambulances, have been stationed for additional support. The rescue team is trying to move the lift manually to rescue the trapped people,” said local police station house officer (SHO) Bhanwar Lal to Hindustan Times.

The 15 officials of the Hindustan Copper Limited were trapped inside the mine in the Kolihan area of Rajasthan’s Neem ka Thana district during an inspection.

The inspection at the site was going on since Monday, according to CNN-News 18. The vigilance personnel had arrived from Kolkata.

SHO Lal said that the incident happened around 8 pm when the 15 personnel were returning. He further said that the 15 personnel were stuck at a depth of around 700 metres.
